Evergreen Day School provides early care and play-based education for toddlers to five-year-olds. EDS offers children a safe and nurturing place to grow, question, and explore their world. Our staff is committed to helping each child uncover and develop their own unique abilities. We believe that supporting young children’s natural curiosity builds a foundation for joyful learning.
We embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion by welcoming all staff, children, and families of all identities including but not limited to race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, culture, family structure, natural origin, religion, or class.

Our Staff
Our teachers are the life of our school and we believe it’s important to retain our educators year over year to build solid relationships with our community and students.
Our early childhood educators regularly examine and adjust their teaching practices to ensure that their classroom environment supports the developmental and cultural needs of each child and the current classroom community.
Our teachers recognize and honor each child’s uniqueness by building relationships with each family beginning with our late summer home visit and through many other opportunities with each family throughout the school year.

Structure
Evergreen Day School is an independent non-profit preschool. Evergreen has a Board of Trustees comprised of parents and the EDS Directors who work together to decide school policy and direction. Evergreen Day School operates as a school year program, mid-September through mid-June. We observe all major holidays including Winter recess, February recess and April recess. In addition, EDS is closed two days each year to provide parent-teacher conferences, and one Teacher Professional Development Day for the staff to have an opportunity to participate in training sessions as a group.
During the summer, we operate an 8-week summer program.
It’s in the name
When Kate Duffy founded EDS in 1989, she developed the curriculum by watching the children play and she sought a name that reflected what she witnessed.
Evergreen trees are strong, constant, and perfect as they are – remaining ever vibrant. They are free to choose their own path and grow at their own pace. They are all wonderfully different and their beauty lives within them, needing only room and space to fully express itself. This symbolism embodied the vision Kate had for Evergreen at its creation and continues to shape our school today.
